Another day, another demo. Weather favorable. Painted the Bidahochi outcrop on the rim behind the Painted Desert Inn. The vertical, devoid of human artifacts, has now been completed. This afternoon, I did the demo, also behind the PDI, trying to improve my skill at painting adobe. It hasn’t improved.

I also had my paintings set up in a small porch-like alcove where I could see them from my painting spot for the painting above:
Perhaps tomorrow, when I am compos mentis, I will have a thought. But for the nonce, I have recorded this day. –June

Dust (which is DIRT) is part of life around here. It might be interesting to run an experimant by painting a board in the colors of the area and leaving it out in the elements to see what they would do it. Who knows, you might like it and if you could mask off part of a piece and use the elements to enhance the exposed parts you might be on to something interesting.
I am glad to hear that you are able to stay longer at the park, it will allow you to extend your thoughts.
Barbara,
Not only is dust “dirt” (our apartment can only be walked around in with shoes on — the grit accumulates faster than the broom can remove it — it’s big dirt. Perhaps when we get back from the Lightning Field next week, my painting will be all medium and local “palette.” But I need some of that red bentonite clay from the Painted Desert, and perhaps some of the purple stuff from the Teepees — and then there’s the ghastly white clay at Blue Mesa. I could spend a lot of time driving around tryng to get the wind to hit the canvas just right.
Might be fun, at that:-) Thanks for checking in.
